Jeremy is a labour and employment lawyer specializing in occupational health and safety law. As a former health and safety prosecutor, Jeremy has detailed and special expertise in occupational health and safety and other regulatory matters. He advises and represents organizations and their management in all sectors. Jeremy provides proactive and strategic advice following serious workplace incidents, during regulatory inspections (including in challenging orders and directions), with respect to work refusals, and on other sensitive health and safety issues. In addition, Jeremy is a very experienced and successful advocate who has conducted numerous trials, appeals and hearings before every level of court in Ontario and before boards of arbitration, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, Occupational Health and Safety Tribunal Canada, and Coroner’s Inquests.
Jeremy is a co-author of the Annotated Occupational Health and Safety Act, a leading text used by lawyers and human resources and health and health and safety professionals. He is also a frequent writer, speaker and lecturer on health and safety law and issues. As well, Jeremy is the immediate past Chair of the Occupational Health and Safety Subcommittee of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE).

Obtained acquittal, at trial, for custom steel fabricator charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for an alleged failure to ensure that guardrails were erected around a raised wood platform.

Advocated for client in discussions with the Ministry of Labour regarding an Occupational Health and Safety Act order about replacement of street lights. Following the discussions the order was rescinded by the Ministry.

Ontario OHSA Fine Signals Future Significant Director & Officer Prosecution Risk
The case involving a workplace explosion and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) prosecution against Eastway Tank, Pump and Meter Limited of Ottawa, Ontario and its owner and Director Neil Greene, wrapped on Friday April 5, 2024 with guilty pleas and penalties for both the company and its Director. Ontario Hikes Corporate OHSA Penalties to Highest in Canada
On October 26, 2023, Bill 79, the Working for Workers Act, 2023 received Royal Assent. Included in legislative changes made by the Bill is an amendment to subsection 66(1) of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act that increases the maximum fine that can be imposed on a corporation from $1.5 million to $2 million.
