Amanda is a Partner in our Toronto office with more than 25 years of experience in labour and employment law. She advises employers in both the provincial and federal sectors across a wide range of industries and sectors, including manufacturing, financial services, technology, municipalities, healthcare, and education.
Her work includes employment standards compliance, human rights matters, labour relations, workplace policy development, and employee management issues. A recognized expert in minimum standards legislation, Amanda is known for finding practical and creative solutions to complex workplace challenges.
Amanda regularly represents employers at all levels of Court in Ontario and appears before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and labour arbitrators.
She is also committed to mentorship and to advancing inclusion and equity within the legal profession, consistently seeking innovative approaches to delivering effective and responsive legal services.
Representative experience
Successfully argued summary hearing dismissing an HRTO application due to delay.
Successfully argued that a vaccination policy was consistently applied despite variations to address progressive discipline, accommodation and urgent circumstances due to evolving variants.
Represented a university to successfully confirm discipline for a professor’s negative comments to students regarding an on-line course he did not want to teach.
Represented employer in 2019 Ontario Court of Appeal decision confirming that reasonable notice is capped at 24 months unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Advised and represented hospitals through the process under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act
Represented a private sector manufacturing employer in grievance arbitration regarding termination of employment and successfully argued that there was just cause for termination due to sabotage.
Advised various employers through complex workplace harassment investigations involving multiple respondents and complainants.
