On July, 2, 2025, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (“OINP”) will launch a new OINP Employer Portal.
As part of this new digital platform, employers will initiate support for an employee’s application by submitting details about the role directly to the OINP Employer Portal, before applicant-employees register their Expression of Interest (“EOI”).
The new portal will allow employers to:
- Communicate directly with the OINP program;
- Add employer contacts and authorized representatives; and
- Submit, manage and track applications.
Though a joint application between the employer and employee, the previous system was driven almost entirely by the employee. The employer would only agree to support the permanent, full-time role and provide the required ‘Application for Approval of an Employment Position’, with the employee submitting all required information.
This change will allow employers to identify key positions subject to labour shortages and lead the application process in a more direct, convenient, and secure manner.
What can employers expect during the transition?
As part of this upgrade, the OINP system will be inaccessible to new registrants from June 20 to July 2, 2025.
Any existing EOIs were automatically withdrawn on June 22. Employers will be able to register and provide employment position information on or after July 2, 2025. Applicant-employees will then be able to re-register their withdrawn EOIs, which will be valid for 12 months.
More information on the new employer-led process and employer portal will be published soon.
