Katherine is an experienced lawyer with over 20 years of practice providing sound and practical legal advice to employers. She joined the firm with over 15 years of experience as in-house counsel to one of the largest employers in Alberta’s oil sands industry. Prior to her in-house practice, Katherine articled with, and practiced as an associate in, the Labour and Employment Group of a national law firm.
Katherine has a keen understanding of our clients’ operational environments and takes a very practical, solution-oriented approach to serving clients.
She successfully advises employers on every aspect of managing the employment relationship from hiring, to progressive discipline, disability management, severance and terminations (with or without cause).
Katherine has developed all manner of employment-related programs and documentation including benefit plan texts, employment contracts, policies, procedures, manuals, and stakeholder communications.
She also conducts and provides legal direction on workplace investigations, and is adept at handling these complex matters sensitively and professionally.
Katherine also has a wealth of experience providing strategic legal direction in the defence of employment-related litigation, such as Human Rights complaints, Employment Standards claims, Workers’ Compensation claims and Privacy complaints. She also regularly advises on OH&S compliance matters and her practice includes a focus on developing workplace alcohol and drug testing programs.
