Join us, as our Alberta lawyers and special guest Phil Mincher, Manager of Investigations/Bill 30 OHS Program Implementation Lead, will explain the impacts and provide the information you need to know on the upcoming significant changes in occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation. These changes come on the heels of substantial amendments to the province’s employment standards and labour laws.
Bill 30 was introduced by the Government of Alberta on November 27, 2017 and is now law. It includes considerable changes to the Workers’ Compensation Act, including mandatory reinstatement of workers after injury, and new dispute resolution procedures and medical evidence rules. Most of these changes are already in effect.
Bill 30 also completely overhauled the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The new law takes effect on June 1, 2018, and will include new roles and responsibilities for worksite parties (including employers, workers, supervisors, suppliers, prime contractors and others), an emphasis on the prevention of workplace bullying/harassment and violence, and the mandatory establishment of Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees and Health and Safety Representatives, as well as many other changes.
What do these changes mean for your business and workforce? You, as an Alberta employer, need to be up to speed on the new rules and learn how you can best adapt to the changes and effectively manage risk.
Breakfast will be served so bring an appetite! We hope you will join us!
