January 1, 2016, marks the compliance deadline for a host of new obligations imposed by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (“AODA”). All private sector organizations in Ontario need to turn their minds to ensuring compliance, or risk facing hefty fines and other sanctions. Upcoming requirements include:
- Establishing processes for preparing documented individual accommodation plans
- Updating recruitment, performance management, career advancement and other processes to account for accessibility needs
- Developing process for returning employees to work following an absence due to disability
- Ensuring certain information is available to employees in an accessible format / with communication supports
Join Joe Morrison (partner) and Dan Attwell (Associate) as we help you not only understand and comply with these new obligations, but also appreciate how an effective implementation of the AODA can help you increase productivity and workplace safety, effectively manage your workforce, and minimize potential liability.
